The purpose of the "Anne Arundel County Oral History" Program is to preserve and document residents' personal stories and historical Crownsville experiences. Backed by the Crownsville Collection in the Maryland State Archives (MSA), officially titled "Crownsville Through the Ages," the program aims to create a rich historical archive that reflects the community's diverse voices and experiences.
The "Say My Name" Program brings the nationally-known Say My Name Ceremony, which is held every spring at the former Crownsville State Hospital for the Negro Insane. While the program and ceremony intends to provide rememberence, it is also important to honor those involved in preserving and documenting history.
By systematically reviewing and organizing patient files, the "Researching Patient Files" Program aims to maintain a comprehensive and reliable archive for research, historical reference, and policy development. Sponsored by the Maryland Department of Mental Health and Hygiene, FCHPC is excited to announce volunteer opportunities to support this program at the State Archive Facility in Woodlawn, MD.
